A rare late 19th-century Enamel egg pomander pendant, this petite treasure marries exquisite miniature painting with romantic, baroque-inspired ornament. Its egg-shaped body is richly adorned with polychrome hand-painted Enamel in oval cartouches—one depicting a seated figure, the other a cherubic head—framed by gilt foliate scrolls and delicate dotwork over a warm coral-pink ground with soft blue-green accents. A finely pierced filigree “waist” in Silver tones encircles the equator, while the overall palette and gilt highlights create an opulent, angelic allure—perfectly evocative of Easter.

Opening on a tidy hinge to reveal a Gold-gilded interior, it retains a fitted felt insert, characteristic of vinaigrette and scent pomander lockets cherished in the Victorian era. Delicate, sentimental and highly decorative, it’s a beautifully wearable keepsake ready to suspend from your favourite chain.

MEASUREMENTS: Pendant is 35mm long including jump ring.
Pendant is 16.5mm wide.

MATERIALS: Tests as Silver, Enamel, Gold gilding to the interior.

HALLMARKS: Since we have dated this piece as being made before 1950, a hallmark is not required in order for it to be sold in line with UK hallmarking legislation.

PACKAGING: Your order will be gift-wrapped free of charge in a Lillicoco cardboard box made from recycled materials, tied with a ribbon.

Condition

EXCELLENT: The hand-painted Enamels are vibrant with only light surface wear visible under close inspection. The hinge and closure are secure; the interior gilding is bright with gentle age-related wear. No obvious repairs, with a pleasing antique patina throughout.
